ePub Creation

Pro and above

What you'll learn

  • How to create an ePub (Pro and above)
  • Setting metadata, chapter structure, and table of contents
  • Difference between reflowable and fixed-layout formats

1ePub Creation tab

The ePub Creation tab lets you build an ePub (e-book file) from your polished text and images. Exporting to ePub and other output formats requires Pro or above.

A table of contents panel sits on the left, the body text editor in the center, and the import, settings, and export buttons are along the top.

2Preparing body text

  • Import OCR/AI results — Pull in the content you refined in the Text Editing tab as body text.
  • Edit directly — Type additional text in the body editor and apply formatting such as headings.
  • Insert images — Embed images inline in the body text.
  • Ruby (furigana) — Add ruby (furigana) pronunciation guides to characters.
When importing OCR/AI results, the text from each page is flowed into the body in order. For any page whose blocks cannot be resolved, the full page text is imported as-is.

3Metadata (ePub Settings)

ePub Settings lets you specify book information and appearance.

  • Title, author, and other bibliographic metadata.
  • Cover image and CSS (visual styling).
  • Text direction: vertical or horizontal.
  • The chapter structure and table of contents settings described in the next section.

4Chapter structure and table of contents

StillSnap uses your headings to split the book into chapters and generate a table of contents. Configure the following in ePub Settings.

  • Heading level for chapter splits — Which heading level (H1 / H2 …) triggers a new chapter (page).
  • Table of contents depth — How many heading levels appear in the TOC. A deeper setting lets readers jump directly to sub-sections within chapters.
  • Preamble chapter — Whether any body text that appears before the first heading is treated as a standalone introductory chapter.
Whenever you change a setting, the TOC preview on the left updates instantly. Use it to verify chapter breaks and TOC depth before exporting.

5Reflowable vs. fixed-layout

TypeCharacteristicsBest suited for
ReflowableText reflows to fit the screen and font size. Readers can adjust the font size.Text-heavy books.
Fixed-layout ProPreserves the exact page layout.Layout-critical or image-heavy books.

Use reflowable for text-heavy content, and fixed-layout when you need to preserve the original page appearance exactly.

6Exporting and importing

  • Export as ePub — Generates an ePub file according to your settings and saves it to the Save to folder.
  • Import ePub — Open an existing ePub to continue editing it.
The finished ePub can be opened in any e-book reader app. For image format and PDF output settings that apply to the whole project, see Output Settings.
